Toots & The Maytals – Pressure Drop

Not sure how I found this, my studio is an old nail factory with a glass roof so you really feel the seasons, when the sun finally arrives I like to make the most of it, this track is one that always comes on when the sun shines.

Cilla Black – Conversations

When I was younger I was not a Cilla fan, then a stylist I worked with loaned me a collection of hers. This is a firm favorite. Full drama. I think shes a bit underrated as a vocalist.

Wendy Rene – After Laughter

This was on the This is England 88 soundtrack, have loved it since.

Yazoo – Midnight

Love the intro. And the production. And the lyrics.

Carolyn Crawford – My Smile Is Just A Frown

I've been watching all the Carol Morley films recently, this is from 'Dreams Of A Life' its a scene which is a real breather to the rest of the film, everyone I have played it to needs to have another few listens.

The Units – High Pressure Days

My brother Matt recommended this for our show last season and I loved it first listen so we ended up using it, the mixes are really good too.

John Holt – Riding For A Fall

I love Tracey Emin. This was used on The Southbank Show years back, it was the backdrop to some great footage of Tracey riding a camel that I really liked.

Sinead O'Connor – Downpressor Man

I was asked recently to interview a musical hero and I chose Sinead, we had a really great, inspiring two hour talk on the phone.  I love Sly and Robbie too who produced this, Sinead is a rare singer who lends a fantastic quality to any song.  And a lovely person too.  the production is so authentic, the whole album is brilliant.

Dead Or Alive – Its Been Hours Now

Spin Me Round is the big hit but Pete Burns early work is much darker and incredible, somehow it has a sound of Liverpool that is hard to pin down, I love how brave he is, living art. And a total wit.

Leslie Winer – John Says

I found out about Leslie through the work of John Maybury who she worked with alot.  I asked her if I could use her music for the show and she thankfully agreed. Her album 'WITCH' is from 1990 and hasnt aged at all, a real achievement. She was a really successful model in the eighties and has since been making music in and keeping a low profile, a total find. So hard to pick a favorite track, this just made it though. The production is sublime.
