Moonface – Marimba And Shit-Drums

A very ambitious piece by Spencer Krug (formerly of Wolf Parade/Sunset Rubdown), a 20 minute marimba suite. It's borrowing heavily from Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians, but that's a good thing. A great tune to zone out to. I should also mention the follow-up LP to this, called Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I'd Hoped. It has this toy-like, mechanical vibe to it, which has really inspired my work in the last couple of months.

Doctors of Madness – Mainlines

I got introduced to this band by a British friend of mine. I don't really like the rest of this album (too much of a straightforward punk vibe for me to work to), but this track is so dynamic and loooong…

Abe Vigoda – Dream Of My Love (Chasing After You)

Apparently I'm the only one in the world who likes Abe Vigoda's last LP Crush. Anything off this album is good in my opinion, nice and dark, glittery goth.

Clan of Xymox – No Words

Nice and simple song by these Dutch goth/wave pioneers. Also, the singer's accent is great.

Neu! – Crazy

I'll have to admit, the rest of this Neu! '86 album left me quite underwhelmed, but this is Klaus Dinger's songwriting at its best. It's like every great Neu! tune sped up and squashed into a Top 40 mould.

La Düsseldorf – Rheinita

Another Klaus Dinger classic. This song sounds like a lengthy Schlager karaoke tape, which is brilliant.

Cold Cave – The Great Pan Is Dead

Aggressive, very over the top. It has this heavy pulsing Industrial beat to it, plus a weird ABBA vibe going on at the same time. I can't explain it, really.

Geinoh Yamashirogumi – Reincarnation

Another great band I got introduced to by a friend. A beautiful, intricate track based on traditional Japanese percussion and Indonesian gamelanmusic. Also, their soundtrack for the Akira movie is very good to work too.

The Fall – Kurious Oranj

Too many Fall favourites to choose from, but this is a brilliant track. A eulogy of everything Dutch in reggae form. I tend to like the Peel Session better than the album version though.

Minny Pops – Dolphin's Spurt

Great, funky track. I like songs with a thick groove that seem to go on forever, especially when I'm working. It gives your mind some space to wander off, in a good way…
